Things to do if a patient stops logging
Hasn't logged
- Some things to consider.
- Message them - Simply message them with a direct message to ask them if they are okay. Consider including a motivational image which can be selected from the Direct message feature (Bottom left)
- Reestablish the exceptions in session - Make sure you have communicated the when the patient is expected to use app and how often you will review data. We recommend patients log each and every meal and snack (even if they skipped it!) and that you review data before individual visits and once or twice in between (if you can manage it). A presumptive approach seems to work best: instead of asking "would you like to try this app?" try, "Recovery Record is a tool I use with my patients to get the best results".
- Reaffirm how RR help in session - Address "How" RR will help disrupt disordered eating (see attached for talking points --- we have the RR patient Training Guideline attached)
- Ask them to log their latest meal in session. Then you can ask them how they felt doing it and what are their hesitations to doing it after every meal.
- Intermittent random reinforcement for the win! This is one of the most powerful patient engagement tools. Once per week at a random time, provide in-app feedback with either a thumbs up, a comment on the meal log or an encouraging message. Don't shy away from using emojis :-) This will only take a moment but will make a BIG difference.
- Keep Accountable - In session either congratulate on keeping up RR or call out that you can only be as helpful as you are informed - challenge the patient to be as honest as possible in RR. It might take a couple of tries for them to get on a roll, but persistence prevails!
